As an attorney, Don Scott offers innocent clients dogged representation in the courtroom, refusing to back down despite the cunning tactics employed by the other side. He works tirelessly because he understands integrity, service, and sacrifice. He also understands a feeling many Breit Biniazan clients experience in the wake of a catastrophic event: helplessness.
Growing up, Don was one of six children raised by a single mother in a rough Houston neighborhood. In third grade, he exhibited academic promise and was soon bussed to a better elementary school. After graduating from high school, Don studied agricultural education at Texas A&M University. In 1987, he finished the program and joined the United States Navy, where he served as a Surface Warfare Officer.
While deployed on the USS John Hancock, Don served as the ship’s legal officer. The experience forever changed his trajectory. In 1991, he began pursuing his law degree at Louisiana State University. He graduated in 1994.
In August 2002, Don was offered an entry-level position at KRA Corporation, a multi-million-dollar workforce development company. He quickly climbed the ranks and was promoted to Senior Vice President. Though the job was rewarding, it required intensive travel and time away from his wife and daughter.
That’s when he returned to his law degree. In 2014, while working full-time, he studied for and passed the Virginia Bar Exam. In 2015, he fulfilled a lifelong dream and founded the Law Office of Don Scott, PLLC. Since then, Don has represented thousands of clients in a variety of cases ranging from personal injury to civil rights to criminal defense. Don has also nurtured a career in politics. In 2019, he was elected to the Virginia General Assembly, where he represents residents of Virginia’s 88th District and is a champion for issues like criminal justice, economic development, and health care affordability. Most recently, Don won re-election as Delegate and was appointed as Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Virginia General Assembly, making history as the first black speaker in the Commonwealth’s 404 year history.
Understanding the importance of community service, Don sits on several boards and commissions. He currently serves as the President of the Southeastern Employment and Training Association. He’s also a member of the Eureka Club and holds lifetime memberships in the NAACP and V.F.W., Post #993.
Previously, Don served as the Chair of the Portsmouth Economic Development Authority and Chair of the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals. He also volunteered his time to the California Workforce Association, 200+ Men Hampton Roads, and other vital nonprofits.
Don comes to Breit Biniazan with an unrelenting drive and fierce passion for justice. He understands firsthand how complicated it can be to navigate the legal system alone and is here to provide unparalleled representation for clients who have been unfairly wronged.
